ABOUT

Overview

A consortium of medical and business stakeholders explored a digital rehabilitation platform aimed at supporting patients with chronic lung diseases. The initiative focused on understanding how technology could enhance tracking, instruction delivery, and progress evaluation between physicians and patients.

Scope of the Project
  • Mapping rehab activities and physician–patient task flows
  • Early PoC using low-cost tools (WordPress, CRM)
  • Evaluation of long-term production stack options (Flutter, AWS)
  • Motion tracking experiments for exercise guidance
  • Assessment of clinical relevance, accuracy, and user expectations

HEPIUS Responsibilities
  • Defining technical options for PoC and production phases
  • Designing patient-centric workflow models for rehab tasks
  • Facilitating and evaluating motion tracking prototypes
  • Clarifying compliance boundaries and practical adoption requirements
  • Supporting stakeholder decision-making across an 8-month viability review

Technology Components
  • PoC: Lightweight WordPress + CRM setup
  • Production Concept: Flutter + AWS Cloud Services
  • Motion SDK tested for exercise capture and guidance
  • Structured evaluation covering feasibility, accuracy, and patient acceptance

RESULTS

Patient Workflows
  • Developed structured rehabilitation flows supporting chronic lung disease management.
  • Ensured clarity in physician instructions and patient tracking loops.
  • Provided a framework for future digital care modules.

Motion Prototype
  • Early tests showed the feasibility of capturing guided movement patterns.
  • Identified limitations, calibration needs, and accuracy requirements.
  • Helped stakeholders understand technical maturity and cost implications.

Stakeholder Alignment
  • Delivered clarity on budget constraints, technical trade-offs, and clinical needs.
  • Captured essential acceptance criteria from medical professionals.
  • Provided a validated foundation for proceeding into production planning.

Pilot Outcome
  • Stakeholders gained a realistic understanding of both opportunities and operational limits.
  • Customer acquisition planning and production preparation began immediately after PoC completion.
  • The project demonstrated that digital rehab support can be viable when aligned with regulatory and clinical expectations.
